Meet the Neighbors: Youngsville

A fairly young city by most standards (it was only upgraded from ‘town’ status in 2005), Youngsville is a fast-growing community that is a great mix of small-town atmosphere and big-city amenities. In 2011, it was voted as the ‘Best Place to Live in Louisiana’ by Yahoo! and, since then, has continued to grow and prosper year over year.

The city’s neighborhoods are a mirror of that mix, and within the city you’ll find everything from sprawling country acreage to miniaturized metro life—minus the pollution, standardly high crime rates and cold shoulders. Here are five of Youngsville’s most popular neighborhoods

Sugar Mill Pond

Year-round events and a close-knit community are the focus of the neighborhood that sits at the center of the city. Sugar Mill Pond is a walkable, upscale community that provides many city amenities right near your door without sacrificing the culture and allure of living in Cajun country.

Once a month from March to October, Sugar Jam brings live Cajun and zydeco music right outside your door. Or, wake up early on Saturdays and do your shopping at the Youngsville farmer’s market. With quick access to local schools, fine dining, daily amenities and nearby Lafayette (home to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette), residents of Sugar Mill Pond are never far from work, school or something new to do and explore.

Copper Meadows

Copper Meadows is a small neighborhood with big appeal. From family movie nights out on the lawn to large outdoor community areas that include fountains, fishing and paved walking paths, this neighborhood is perfect for those who enjoy outdoor living but still want to be close to the benefits of city living.

For parents moving into the neighborhood, they have a number of options nearby for where to send their children to school. Both public and private schools are available, offering a great mix of available education options from early learning to high school.

Field Crest

Tucked into a small corner of the city, Field Crest is a short distance from both the Youngsville highway and nearby Lafayette, making it a great neighborhood for commuters who’d prefer not to live in the middle of a larger, more expensive city.

The neighborhood’s median price for homes is currently $212,025 and, as the city continues to grow and prosper, homes in this neighborhood have seen an average increase in value of 10% over the last four years. The neighborhood owes this value to its close location to multiple schools and a number of growing commercial developments.

Laurel Grove

Located a stone’s throw away from the Youngsville Sports Complex, Laurel Grove is perfect for growing families and those looking for a comfortable space to lay down their roots. While it’s one of the smaller neighborhoods in the city, it still houses a park and multiple walking trails for its residents.

While the neighborhood doesn’t offer much in the way of community-specific events, the nearby sports complex is a great place to catch a baseball game, spend time with friends or join a number of the city’s intramural leagues. It’s also only a short drive from Sugar Mill Pond and the numerous free, public events hosted there.

Sugar Trace

Sitting at the edge of both Youngsville and Broussard, Sugar Trace offers country living and easy access to Highway 90 and Ambassador Caffery Parkway, making it an ideal neighborhood for larger families who may want to work, live and shop in multiple cities or desire an easy exit to Interstate 10.

The neighborhood offers large and small properties and has a variety of schools for children to attend. It’s also only a short trip to Zoosiana (the area’s local zoo) and down the road from Le Triomphe, a PGA-certified golf course popular with professionals and hobbyists alike.
